Winter Courses. Required WGST Classes WGST Feminist Theories Faculty: Mary Robertson TTh Cross-listed with SOCL In-depth study of key theorists, issues, themes and debates in past and current feminist theories, including critical race theory, postcolonial theory, modern and postmodern theories, with particular attention to intersections of gender with sexuality, race, national origin, and class, among others.

Overview of modern philosophy of science as well as of traditional disciplinary methods and study of interdisciplinary feminist critiques of such methods. This course studies contemporary authors who write biographies that focus on women, gender, and sexuality. We will read books on a range of subjects including Tudor queen Catherine of Aragon, medieval French author Marie de France, Black civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer, and a Black American family told through a keepsake.

Some questions we will consider: How do we discuss the intimate and personal aspects of a woman's life? How do we write about gender and sexuality? Do we focus on the public or the private, or both? What are the ethics of writing biography? In this course we will read poetic memoirs written by queer and minoritarian authors in order to observe the genre and discover its possibilities.

We will also create our own poetic memoir projects using creative writing exercises geared at exploring how to listen to and perform the complexity of our own narratives. Through encountering a variety of lyric, memoir, interdisciplinary and hybrid modes and experiments, we will articulate, explore and engage the unique possibilities that poetic memoir offers to queer and minoritarian bodies, narratives, experiences and imaginations. This work directly addresses the conditions the movement seeks to address—for example the Black Panther Party's Free Breakfast Program, the Young Lords Party's hijacking of New York City's tuberculosis testing mobile unit to reach high-risk, medically neglected neighborhoods, and feminist organizing to provide underground abortions in the 's.

Examines contributions to the field by scholars from a range of academic disciplines in the humanities, arts, and social sciences. Spring Courses. The Gender Equity in Pay Task Force is made up of community experts with expertise to help the City of Seattle come up with creative solutions to this complex problem.

The goal of the Gender Equity in Pay Task Force is to address inequities in salaries and wages based on gender in Seattle City government. A recent report from the National Partnership for Women and Families NWPF ranked Seattle as having the widest gender wage gap among the nation's 50 largest metropolitan areas. In response to the NWPF report, the Mayor directed the City Personnel Department to conduct a review of the City's salary structure to determine if these disparities were present among City of Seattle workers as well.
